There was news article on 26.7.2023 in the Bar & Bench on hearing in an interesting matter in the Gujarat High Court.
FIR against the petitioner-NRI businessman was quashed in December 2022. He had issued legal notices to the Indian Express, the Times of India and Google to remove all the URLs of news article mentioning his name on registration of the FIR. Thereafter, he moved the High Court of Gujarat in view of evasive responses of the media. It was dismissed by the learned Single Bench in February 2022.
In Letters Patent Appeal No.192 of 2022, the salutary observations of the Hon’ble Court at the time of hearing on 26.7.2023 as reported in the news article need consideration
The important questions involved in the above litigation and the decision thereon will have far-reaching consequences on such instances in public domain.
