Insurance – Landmark reforms – Freedom in product development, pricing and governance- – Insurance Products Regulations of 2024 enabling insurers to adopt good governance while designing and pricing the insurance products.

De-notification of tariff will make substantial change for the insurers and also the consumers.  It is said that this landmark development not only promote and ensure orderly growth of the insurance sector but also enable the insurance companies to offer tailor made products to meet diverse amd larger needs of the corporate clients.   It is believed that this crucial decision will be a positive step to achieve insurance for all by 2047.

Now the general insurers will have freedom while preparing policy documents including terms, conditions, clauses, policy and endorsement, wordings, classes of business such as fire, engineering, workmen compensation, consequential loss and other classes of insurances which are not earlier allowed.

It is said that these reforms will enhance financial standing of insurers, incentivise risk mitigation, product diversification, improve insurance coverage and bridge the insurance protection gap.

Now, the policy terms would not be standardized.   Therefore, although the consumers will have broader selection of products but they will have careful scrutiny of the policy details.

Above all, this will give lot of scope for the Advocates, Law Firms and the Actuaries.
