Coaching & Tuition Centres – Compliance of Fire and other Safety Norms
The recent order dated 5.8.2024 of the Supreme Court is an eye opener for all the stake holders and all of us.
By the order dated 14.12.2023, the Delhi High Court directed all the coaching and tuition centres are mandatorily required to ensure compliance NOCs and Fire Safety Certificates.
Coaching Federation of India has challenged the said in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court dismissed the said petition as frivolous with exemplary costs of Rs.1,00,000/-. It was stated that the President, General Secretary and the Treasurer of the Federation shall be personally responsible to deposit the cost amount failing which to register suo motu contempt proceedings.
Coaching and Tuition Centres should not be allowed to operate unless there is meticulous compliance of fire safety norms and other safety measures for the students, besides other amenities for a dignified human life. Such norms must necessarily include proper ventilation, safety passages, air, light, potable water and washrooms and such other requisites as may be prescribed through statutory measures / guidelines.
