In the background of model guidelines of Ministry of Housing and feedback of misleading advertisements of real estate projects as “Retirement Homes”, lack or non-adherence to the minimum physical standards / specifications, MahaRERA has circulated draft Order on Regulation of Retirement of Homes. It is said that such a regulation is first of its kind in the country.
To my mind, in addition to various salutary provisions in the Regulation, the following important features, amongst others, will go a long way to ensure safety and security imperative for the senior citizens –
Emergency alarm and lights controls at bedside and bathrooms near toilet seat.
Deployment of trained and skilled security personnel on ground floor at entry and exit with intercom / basic telephone facility.
CCTV cameras at important places
Emergency fire-fighting services and disaster preparedness for evacuation.
Emergency and important contact numbers should be provided to all the residents and also displayed in all common areas i.e. outside lifts.
