By the Government Order dated 17.8.2023 the Government of Tamil Nadu granted incentive marks in government appointments to those Health Professionals who worked for Covid-19 duty.
By the impugned letter dated 23.8.2023 the request of Post-graduate Medical Students for grant of incentive marks was rejected on the ground that Covid-19 duty was part of their 36 months training period.
HELD that the purpose of GO is to recognise the services and express societal gratitude to the yeoman service as also to implement the Judgment of the Supreme Court of India in Suo Motu W.P.(Civil) No.3 of 2021. The PG students had put in the same kind of duty as other medical officers of the State Government. In fact, the GO dated 17.8.2023 does not exclude PG students but the impugned letter dated 23.8.2023 issued on the interpretation of officials that PG students are excluded from the said incentive marks.
Judgment dated 16.11.2023 in W.P.No.25827 of 2023 in Dr.D.Hariharan and others Vs. Union of India and others with connected matters.
