Online independent system for reservation of beds for poor and impecunious patients in charitable hospitals

Very important and salutary decisions vide Government Resolutions dated 5.7.2023 and 14.07.203 of the Government of Maharashtra.   In fact, sooner the better, such a salutary decision and online system for poor patients should be developed and followed in all other States.

It is well known that large number of beds are reserved for the poor and impecunious patients in the Hospitals registered as charitable trust under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950.  Out of total beds in a charitable trust, 20% beds (10% completely free of costs and 10% at concessional rates) are reserved for poor patients.   However, this information is not made known to the patients in the public domain.  As a result, such patients are deprived of such valuable medical facilities in more than 400 charitable hospitals in the State.

Now, the Committee is constituted to devise, develop and implement an “Independent Online System” to provide for real time information on such reserved beds in a transparent manner and in public domain.

This will definitely will go a long way to fulfil the right to health so that right to life enshrined in Article 21 of the Constitution of India is made a reality.
