National Scholarship Scheme – Students of unaided private schools are ineligible

National Merit Scholarship Examination & Scheme – Students of Unaided Private Schools – Right to Free Education Act, 2009

In 2007 the National Scholarship Scheme for one lakh students each year per year to nurture talent from the excluded section.

The annual income of parents of such student is fixed at Rs.3,50,000/-, whereas, the scholarship is now at Rs.12,000 per month.

In Maharashtra, 11682 students are earmarked for the scholarship in a year.

Central Scholarship Scheme –  Validity of Note I of clause 3(d) of the Brochure dated 14.3.2021 and Clause 1.2 of the Revised Guidelines of the Central School National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme

It provides that the students of unaided schools are ineligible for the scholarship.

The students of the petitioner – unaided school and belonging to poverty stricken background are admitted from 25% of the quota as per section 12 of the Right of the Child to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.

HELD that the exclusion of students of unaided private schools is legal.  Moreover, the State Government is paying tuition fees of such 25% quota students to the management such private schools.
