Notification dated 12.10.2023 and PIB Release dated 13.10.2023 on Green Credit Program (GCP) and Ecomark scheme Under LiFE Initiative to Promote Sustainable Lifestyle and Environmental Conservation

Lifestyle Ecomark scheme for Environment movement – Pioneering and innovative Green Credit Program to encourage environmental friendly practices.  

In its initial phase, the GCP focuses on two key activities: water conservation and afforestation.

Individuals and entities to register their activities through the central government’s dedicated app/website www.moefcc-gcp.in.

It provides accreditation and accurate labelling for household and consumer products that meet specific environmental criteria while maintaining quality standards as per Indian norms and also to prevent misleading information about the products.

Products accredited under the Ecomark Scheme will adhere to specific environmental criteria, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

It will build consumer awareness of environmental issues and encourage eco-conscious choices as also motivate manufacturers to shift towards environmentally friendly production.

Both initiatives mark significant steps in promoting sustainable living and environmental conservation to embody eco-friendly practices in India and to align with global sustainability goals reflecting the government’s commitment.

The Administrator will verify the activity through a designated agency, with self-verification for small projects. Once verification is complete, the Administrator will grant a Green Credit certificate which will be tradable on the green credit platform.
