Competition Commission of India – Salutary proposed changes to General Regulations

The Competition Commission Act, 2002, was framed to prevent adverse effect on competition and also to promote competition in the markets for protection of consumer interests and freedom of trade.

In 2009, the CCI (General) Regulations were framed to regulate the procedure.

In 2023, new provisions were introduced in the Competition Commission Act was amended. 

Now, the Commission has proposed changes in its 2009 Regulations commensurate with 2023 new amendments in the Act.

One of the salutary proposed changes is the detailed process for implementing and monitoring its orders passed under various section of the Act.

New Regulation 52A is exhaustive for various aspects of appointment of independent agencies such as Accounting Firms, Management Consultancies or professional organisations to oversee the implementation of the orders.

The proposed changes will strengthen the regulatory framework and effective enforcement of the competition norms.
